The thick tortilla with a buttery aftertaste immediately felt familiar, as did the equally sweet and tart lemonade. Lunchtime on Thursday, May 4 included a burrito and limonada for old times’ sake – and I was in my feelings with my first bite. ![]() ![]() Taqueria Jalisciense offers a range of aguas frescas. If not, we’d order our bean and cheese burritos to-go and walk out with a limonada (that’s mine) and horchata (his) in hand to eat in the band hall. If we had enough time, we’d head to our favorite booth that allowed us to see who else from school was there without being seen ourselves. A majority of students and teachers packed El Sol Mexican Restaurant across the street from campus, so my best friend Miguel and I would always walk a block over to Taqueria Jalisciense to avoid the crowds and enjoy our breakfast without the rush. Each student no doubt has a go-to taqueria of their own.įor this Harlandale Indian, my go-to spot was Taqueria Jalisciense at 1604 Pleasanton Road, San Antonio, TX 78221. Within walking distance of each campus, however, you’ll likely find a couple of taquerias that students of past, present, and future will forever associate with their high school experience. Native San Antonians intrinsically form bonds and rivalries based on which local high school we attended, ready to throw it down for our alma mater and represent wherever we go. Taqueria Jalisciense serves breakfast tacos as well as burritos for heartier appetites.
